The Unite Union said that it was astonished at the new job losses, saying question now had to be asked about how far the bank could be allowed to go in its systematic slashing of staff. Lloyds said that it expected 700 of the job reduction to be made through natural attrition across Britain and 700 in group operations.
Up to 150 jobs are to go in West Yorkshire, 100 in Birmingham and 350 across sites in Scotland, plus 84 more in Chester and Speke.
