It has to win a setback for the government’s plan to increase investment in new nuclear power plants. This is announced by RWE npower and E.ON that they do not develop new nuclear power projects in the UK. The two were planning to invest in new plants in Anglesey and Oldbury-on-Severn, near Bristol, in a joint venture called Horizon Nuclear Power.

The government says it is disappointed, but it remains “very interested” in the project. The company blamed problems in financing energy projects and costs associated with decommissioning of nuclear power plants in Germany combined.

They formed Horizon Nuclear Power, based in Gloucester, in 2009. It has been working on plans for new nuclear power stations at Wylfa on the Isle of Anglesey, and Oldbury-on-Severn in South Gloucestershire. They are two of the eight new projects identified by the Government to old power stations that are close to the result until the end of the decade, and from which to replace about a quarter of the power plant capacity in the UK.

But last May decided to include Germany, its nuclear power plants by 2022, after the disaster in Japan, Fukushima nuclear facility. RWE and E.ON, which most have power plants in Germany, it was an expensive decision and undermines their enthusiasm to invest in nuclear energy elsewhere.
