Research can fall into 2 distinct types:
1) Primary Research (field research)
This type of research invoves the collection of data that does not already exist. This can be through numerous forms, including questionnaires and telephone interviews.
2) Secondary Research (desk research)
It involves the summary, collection and/or synthesis of existing research rather than primary research.
Both types of research are widely used in market research plan.
