Travel Costs Push UK Inflation to 4.5%

With an average forecast that inflation would remain unchanged, UK inflation in April soar from 4% to 4.5%, largely due to the distortions as a result of a late Easter this year that helped to drive air fares sharply higher in April compared with last year. The inflation rate reached the highest level in 30 months. Meanwhile, the CPI rose by 1% between March and April alone.
But in spite of the fact that the surge in the annual rate of inflation will add to fears concerning consumer price pressures, most of the increase was because of the Easter bank holidays and is likely to be substantially reversed next month.
