If the upcoming elections were won or lost depending on the number of Twitter messages, Labor would definitely have it in the pocket. After a one-year study in short-form website for communication, it is found that Labor MPs and activists have dominated the political sphere on Twitter, if judged by the volume alone.
Tweetminster who have been tracking contributions from politicians, activists, journalists and bloggers, since December 2008, found Labor MPs and prospective parliamentary candidates had been linked by more supporters than the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. Even adjusting for the majority of Labour, the government was still more popular over Twitter.
However, though Labor has stirred up support from the base of activists on the website is the official Twitter account Conservative Party more influential. It is noted that the tweets from the central banks of the Conservative bill lists and much more often from influential journalists and bloggers Retweeted.
