The Value of Backlinks
Wednesday, August 12, 2009 7:16Google PageRank refers to a score out of ten as to the “value” of a website in comparison to other websites over the Internet. Usually the update of pagerank occurs every three months. It is based on two primary factors—the number of links one have pointing to a certain website and the value of the links pointing to the website.
However, the number of the backlink does not determine the PR. As shown in the table below, some websites with much greater number of backlink could rank much lower than the ones with a few backlinks.
There has been a lot of discussion out there on the SEO forums regarding Google’s changes in June 2009. Reports of Google PageRank updates, backlink algorithm changes and the continued effect of brand keyword reshuffling noticed by the wider SEO community. The value of the links as well as the relevancy of the page linking to the site, are much more important. Only dofollow links will pass page rank value and helps serp ranking increase in google. If you have been doing link building for google search engine optimization, you need to get dofollow backlinks.
Meanwhile, some areas appeared to have reduced value in regards to affecting PageRank. These areas include the following aspects:
1. Multiple links from the same site or run-of-site links.
2. Links with text around them that indicate they are purchased such as “Partners”, “Advertising”, etc.
3. Links from sites that hold little relevancy.
Besides, Google Webmaster Tools also underwent several changes:
1. Reduced Link Count
2. 301 redirected URLs do not appear in the link list
