Rail passengers heading for the city are being encouraged by the cycle rental and storage scheme to get a bike rather than take a taxi or rent a car. Parent company which runs the Dutch railway—Abellio Group, is behind this. The first such facility will open in Leeds in July.
Leeds Cyclepoint is funded with a £500000 grant from the Department for Transport, through Network Rail, which is being spent on the new two-storey building. Besides, Evans Cycles has been contracted to run the facility and will supply 350 bikes for rent at £8 per day, while the fees for storage will be about a £1 a day, with discounts for season ticket holders.
