Vodafone Snaps up C&WW for £1bn

The FTSE 100 communications company–Vodafone has agreed the £1bn cash acquisition of the troubled UK telecoms group–Cable & Wireless Worldwide winning the bidding battle to take over the company. Vodafone’s bid overcame a competing approach from Tata Communications.
Following the news, shares in C&WW jumped 16.5% in early London trading, while Vodafone was little changed at 171.45p.

Vodafone Takes £450m Hit on Greek Business

The UK mobile group–Vodafone just reported a fall of 3% in pre-tax profit at its interim results for 2011-12, as it took a £450m writedown on its Greek mobile phone business. This results highlighted how some of Vodafone’s mobile businesses in the EU are under pressure amid the weak economic environment stemming from the EU sovereign debt crisis.
However, the mobile group expects its full-year operating profit to come out at the top end of its range outlined in May, partly due to a strong performance by the US mobile operator–Verizon Wireless.

Vodafone Profits Rise Despite Spanish Woe

The world’s biggest mobile operator–Vodafone has been forced to take a full-year impairment charge of more than £6bn due to squeezed consumer spending, increased competition as well as deeper discounts. Almost half of the problem listed above came from the telecommunications group’s troubled Spanish division.
Vodafone announced that the economic woes afflicting several southern European countries had pushed down its full-year revenues from the continent by 3.4% to £30bn. But in spite of this, a strong performance from Vodafon’s Africa, Middle East and Asia Pacific operations enabled the company to boost its total turnover by 3.2% to £45.9bn.

Vodafone Pays $5bn to Buy out Essar from Indian Business

Vodafone is to pay $5bn to buy the Essa conglomerate out of the UK mobile phone group’s Indian business.
According to Vodafone, it is said that put and call options were being exercised, under which Essar would sell its 33% stake in Vodafone Essar, the UK group’s Indian business, for $5bn cash. The deal would bring an end to an increasingly acrimonious dispute between Vodafone and Essar over how to value the Indian conglomerate’s minority stake in Vodafone Essar.

Vodafone Bucks the Blue-Chip Blues

For Vodafone, which is has 79.000 employees and serves over 333m customers throughout the world, there is a rising trend in Europe and bounce-back from the riots in Turkey, driven higher on a cloudy day for the Footsie.
The cell phone giant opened the third quarter forecasts. Some 2.6 billion GBP was the stock market value added Vodafone shares rose 4.95p to 139.45p. The buoyant mood was in contrast to the blue-chip index fell 113 points to 5139th. The company makes around 7% of the index that would not have continued to fall, which was for the mobile resuscitation. The global revenues from mobile voice, data and message services rose by 11% to EUR 10.7 billion for the quarter to December; while the European sales were up by 3.2%.
The good news is that it dropped an improvement over the previous quarter, in Europe, at 4.6%. In addition, in the troublesome Turkey market, revenues have increased to 12.9%.
