student loanStudent debt expected to rise to £ 25,000 for the University starting this year, suggests research. The annual survey of 2,000 students for UK University Guide Push also found average annual debt was 5.4% to £ 5,600 per academic year. Figures such as Lord Browne is preparing his review of tuition fees and funding to come for the government. Ministers say to take all changes to the system because of the debt.
The pressure on places is probably stronger than ever before the new school year. Many courses are already fully applied and with record numbers of people can, some students have to settle for courses and universities they choose not otherwise. The researchers asked 2,000 students at 139 universities, which they had accumulated debt. They were asked to include everything from tuition fees to credit card and bank debt, but excluding mortgages. They found pupils in England had an average debt of £ 5,293 per year, while those in Wales netted an average of £ 6,411. In Northern Ireland it was £ 3.769. In Scotland, where British students pay a reduced fee, but also tend to work after four years was the average of £ 2,637.
The UK average is then multiplied by the average number of years and of course a number of inflationary factors to work in the form of a projection. Editor Johnny Rich said: “We are at a sticking point for student debt. Many talented potential students may shy away if it costs a certain amount £ 25,000 to hear.”
