The term of social work came into being in the 19th century. It refers to the profession, which is committed to the pursuit of social justice, to the enhancement of the quality of life, as well as to the further development of the full potential of individual, group and community in society. It seeks to address and resolve social issues simultaneously at all levels of society with different economic status, especially among the poor and sick.
Social workers are the ones that are concerned with social problems, their causes, their solutions and their human impacts. Today there are large amount of professional social workers in the field. They work with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. They organized themselves into local, national, or international professional bodies to further the aims of the profession.
In many countries or jurisdictions, registration or licensure is required for the people to work as social workers and there are mandated qualifications. Most of the time, social workers need to hold a professional degree in social work and often also have a license or are professionally registered. To conclude, to pursuit a career in social work is not as easy as you might have expected.
