Slashed Budgets Pose Threat to Big Society

Charities welcomed David Cameron’s plans for a big society bank but warned the prime minister that Whitehall cuts threaten to derail his vision of the voluntary sector taking over public services.
In a speech to community leaders in Liverpool, Mr. Cameron said that he’s greatly passionated to empower communities via allowing voluntary groups and social enterprises to take the place of the state. Mr. Cameron also said that they should be able to run post offices, libraries and tranport servvices, and shape housing projects.
The prime minister confirmed plans to launch a big society bank to fund his vission, with money from dormant bank accounts.
