Samsung Expects Lasting Smartphone Strength

The South Korean technology group–Samsung Electronics forecast an on-going strong growth in its smartphone sales as the company confirmed record operating profit in the second quarter of 2012, despite of the warning of a deteriorating market for consumer electronics in developed countries.
Samsung Electronics, which is the biggest by sales in the world, had already indicated the headline figures the group expected to report: a 21% year-on-year increase in sales $47.1bn, as well as an increase of 79% in the operating profit to $5.9bn. Both figures above are in line with this month’s guidance of the group.
