Ryanair Cuts Stansted Flights

Ryanair—the Budget airline, has slashed the number of routes from Essex airport Stansted, blaming BAA charges and Government taxes on flying. The company will cut the number of weekly flights from Stansted by 30% between October 2009 and March 2010. In winter season, the number of aircraft will fall from 40 to 24, which is a drop of 40%.
The airline blamed the cutback on the fact that Stansted is one of its two most expensive bases and that airport operator BAA had rejected the airline’s calls for ‘deep cuts in these high passenger fees this winter’.
However, Ryanair will only be operating four fewer planes from Stansted than it did last winter, when it also cut planes at the airport from 36 to 28 the previous summer.
