Profits of The Restaurant Group Jump 3%

Frankie & Benny’s and Garfunkel’s restaurant chains had cause for cheer these days as their parent company, The Restaurant Group, just reported a profit rise of 3%.
With the company benefitting from eight new openings and a decision to hold prices rather than offering deep discounts, the pre-tax profits at The Restaurant Groups were £21.7m for the first half year to June 28.
The trading was said likely to remain tough for the remainder of 2009, with comparable sales down 3% in the half year and a further decline of around 0.5% points ever since the start of the second half.
However, the company hailed its resilience against difficult comparatives and confirmed it was ‘well on track’ to open a total of 15 to 20 eateries in 2009 despite many property firms cancelling and postponing developments.
