Bain Capital Outbids Sage for MYOB

Bain CapitalIn the battle for the Australian company–YOB, Sage had been the preferred bidder until it value MYOB for about A$1.3bn. Recently, it is announced that the US private equity fund–Bain Capital has outbidded Sage in the battle for YOB. Bain’s offer is 12-13 times MYOB’s earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation in 2010.
The fall in Sage’s share price was one reason cited as the possible concern the company by some people that are familiar with the process.

Coca-Cola in $4bn Focus on China

Coca-colaThe world’s largest soft drinks company by revenues–Coca-Cola announced that it was ramping up its focus on the market of mainland China, which is playing the role as the world’s second-largest economy, with an investment of $4bn over the next three years, starting from 2012.
The aggressive bet of Coca-Cola on China comes as the company continuously faces economic headwinds in the US and an ongoing battle with high commodity costs. This new investment will be built on the $3bn investment announced in 2009, bringing Coca-Cola’s total investment in China to $7bn across a five-year period.

Hewlett-Packard Looks to Spin off PC Unit

HPThe PC business of the top computer maker–HP are facing competition from traditional competitors, including Dell and Apple.
The company is currently looking to exit its leading PC business, possibly through a spin-off to shareholders, as it struggles with a deteriorating economy and the overhang from the past acquisitions of technology services group EDS and smartphone pioneer Palm.
HP also announced that it had agreed to acquire UK’s largest software company–Autonomy, at around $11bn and that it had given up the ideat to compete with Apple in the business sector of tablet.

Maersk Hit by Sharp Fall in Container Profits

maerskDenmark’s AP Møller-Maersk, who’s a significant oil and gas producer, are operating the world’s largest container ship fleet. Recently, the shipping line defied a sharp fall of 68% in net profits at its key division of container shipping to generate the first-half profits up by 8% on last year at $2.73bn.
This come as a result of a global oversupply of ships and weak growth in major European and North American markets.
However, AP Møller-Maersk announced that the group expected its full-year results to fall short of the record net profit of $5bn for 2010, when Maersk was boosted by a sharp rebound in its profitability of container shipping as well as a $700m exceptional gain on the sale of Netto food stores to Asda.
