Google+ Isn’t Just A Social Network But Also An “Identity Service”

google-plus-guide

A lot of companies are trying hard to establish an online identity system. In the late 1990s, Microsoft made an effort with Passport, but ended up in being thwarted by privacy advocates and the FTC. Currently, Google takes the lead in the market place.
According to Google chairman–Eric Schmidt, it is said that apart from being the result of Google’s attempt in taking on Facebook’s social graph, Google+ is primarily an “identity service” that the search giant will use to help build other services. This is part of the reason why Google+ is requiring its users to stick with their real names.
The identity system can extend across the Web. Which means that if you’re signed in to Google+ or some particular Web site, your information can be tracked. So under the new system, if the users have a single trusted identity, it could ease their interactions offline and online. Then, they will never need to sign in for email, making online purchase or other issues. This will also help the search engine to better tracking your online activities to provide personalized service to you and more effective ad targeting for advertisers on Google.

According to Eric Schmidt, it is indicated after delivering Friday’s MacTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh International TV Festival that the Google’s troubled Internet-television service–Google TV will soon be getting a reboot.
It was announced that the search giant is currently in discussions with all the key UK broadcasters ahead of a European launch of set-top boxes with its software early next year.
The service will use the same Android operating system that is adopted by smartphones. It will bring a web browser to the TV set and is specially designed to bring to the living room a trove of digital video from websites like YouTube.
However, Google has struggled to secure the support from several major broadcasters in the US and sales of Google TV boxes from electronics manufacturers like Sony and Logitech were far under the original expectations.
