Signs of Green Shoots in UK Jobs Market
Wednesday, September 9, 2009 9:37According to a report by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, the jobs market in the UK is showing signs of improvement for the first time in 17 months.
It signals a return to growth of both permanent and temporary staff appointments during August. For permanent placements, the index rose from July’s 46.1 to 50.6, which is the highest level in 17 months and above the 50-level that separates contraction from expansion. For temporary staff, the index rose from 45.1 to 50.3, which is the highest ever since July last year. However, the survey showed that the number of vacancies available is still falling and wages and salaries continues to decline.
It is said that as a result of an increase in permanent recruitment and growth in temporary placements for the first time in over a year, the employers today are becoming more confident in their hiring decisions.
