Get Storage Smart

Friday, October 9, 2009 5:27
Posted in category Featured

Executives at data security and storage management specialists sent the message that it is time to stop buying storage.
Organizations should focus on getting more from previous storage investment. And that is an appealing prospect at a time when many IT departments have less money to spend on storage, fewer people to manage it, but more data than even to store.
The trick to achieving the goal of cutting, or at least curbing, future spending on storage lies in smart use of four key technologies: storage resource management, thin provisioning, data deduplication and intelligent archiving.
Storage resource management aims to tackle the widespread problem of storage capacity that goes unused.
Thin provisioning, meanwhile, is all about allocating only as much capacity as an application requires from a single ‘pool’ of storage resources. Most major storage array manufacturers now support thin provisioning, giving customers the ability to only allocate capacity as needed, but the management tools these vendors offer are usually applicable only to their own hardware, which is a problem in today’s multi=vendor storage environments.
Data deduplication ensures that companies are not storing multiple, redundant copies of the same information.
Finally, intelligent archiving offers organizations the chance to tackle the burden imposed by unnecessary and obsolete unstructured data, primarily that associated with email. After all, emails are often stored many times: in the email server, on the end-user’s PC, on file servers, in SharePoint and in back-ups.
At a time when every business is focused on cutting costs and optimizing existing assets, these tools and techniques offer IT departments the opportunity to see the benefits of rapid cost containment from Day One of their deployment.

Boosts Job Prospects with A Gap Year

Posted in category Featured, Jobs

With the competition fierce for every vacancy, people who are applying for a job need something that will give them the edge over stay-at-home rivals.
The employers will look for applicants who have taken volunteering work or freelancing work during their gap years as it demonstrates they have achieved something in their time out. Besides, it also indicates that they have the ability to stand on their own two feet and take the initiative, as some gap year experiences take a lot of motivation, drive and energy to get off the ground. For the graduates who just leave school, gap year experience can help demonstrate their capacity to develop beyond academic study.
When choosing what to do during the gap year, it is worth keeping the future in focus. Any activities or skills gained during the period don’t have to be directly relevant to a future career. However, it is important to show that such experience could have given you sills such and learning quickly, or adaptability, etc. And these skills would benefit an employer.
With the skills learned, the gap years could be seen as a way to make one stand out from the crowd.

There are a couple of things one should learn before selecting a prepaid visa card or a prepaid master card that matches his own needs. A checklist could be very helpful for one to pick the right cards. Here are several basic things to think about ahead:
First of all, people should make sure that the repaid debit card they are going to apply comes with an online account control.
Secondly, figure out whether the checking account is free. Some online accounts may charge an activation fee, but a good prepaid debit card will not charge its client a penny.
Last but not least, the immediate adoption of prepaid debit card is a necessity. Ensure that the prepaid card company guarantees fast delivery of new card, as fast service in advance guarantees good service on the road.

Safeguarding Sensitive Data

Thursday, October 8, 2009 12:59
Posted in category Management

In the future of storage, there are two certainties: first of all, there will be significantly more data; and second, the need to protect that data will be critical.
As data deduplication, cloud storage and virtualization emerge as important data centre capabilities that continue to shape the next generation of storage technologies, data security will increasingly need to be built in to storage systems.
The increasing number of high-profile data breaches has an impact today. Whether you work at a high street bank, a conty council or an online retailer, the FSA, ICO and industry groups like the PCI Security Council make sure that consumer and citizen data is protected from loss and theft.
Fines, mandatory remediation with encryption and higher fees are just some of reasons why storage vendors are listening to their customers and building encryption into their storage devices and systems. Encryption will go from being an optional feature to being the default configuration. Uniquely with encryption, data is secured wherever it goes. Whether a drive is sold on eBay or falls off a lorry on the M25, without the key, data remains secured. The possible breach is a non-event.
