Five Things that Managers Need to Know

First of all, remember to keep your meetings as short as possible. You have to pay salary for your employees sitting quitely. So, try to avoid wasting too much money on having them sitting there doing nothing at all during the working hour.
Secondly, always pay great attention to the cultivation of trust among your team. If you fail to build up trust of your subordinates, you are half way towards being defeated.
Thirdly, it is important to listen to your employees. If you know how your employees evaluate you, you could avoid making some big mistakes and make improvement.
Fourthly, never hold a grudge against your subordinates as it might mislead you to make the wrong judgement and evaluation of one person. And it will shut the others up for the future.
Last but not least, you need to train your team to dance with “irons shackles”, which refers to the rules and regulation inside your organization. However, don’t keep the “shackles” too tight, or your people will not be able to dance any more but stand still.

Telecoms Face EU ‘War of Attrition’

The relationship between EU regulators and the largest telecoms groups in Europe was already strained. However, tension reached new levels as the top competition body admitted it is concerned that meetings between the five powerful operators–Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, Telecom Italia, Telefónica and the UK-based wireless group Vodafone, could lead to collusion.
Industry insiders are worried that the “war of attrition” between both parties would undermine plans to roll out high-speed next-generation mobile and fixed-line networks across the region.

Eon Slashes Dividend on €2.2bn Net Loss

Germany has decided to close 8 of its 17 nuclear reactors after the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan last year. The nuclear phase-out, high wholesale natural gas prices, as well as economic slowdown in Germany left deep scars on the country’s largest utility. As a result, the German energy group–Eon has fallen to its first annual loss.
According to the group, it is said that hit by the cost of the government’s decision, Eon has dropped from a profit of €5.9bn in 2010 to a net loss of €2.2bn in 2011. While its sales rose 22 per cent to €113bn, the group planned to cut its shareholder payout by 1/3 to €1 a share and want to cup up to 11,000 of its 80,000 workforce.

Partly due to the crisis and high fuel prices in the eurozone, European flag carriers have seen their results suffer.
Lufthansa, which is Europe’s largest flag carrier by revenue, just warned that its results for 2012 would deteriorate compared with 2010, as it reported a €13m net loss for 2011.
The German Airline looks to record an operating profit in the “mid three-figure euro range” in 2012 compared with €820m in 2011. The Airline group blamed its net loss on BMI British Midland.

Zynga1

The web and mobile games developer–Zynga, is looking to sell more shares well before a “lock-up” period for new investors expires, in order to head off a sharp drop in its share price and avoid the fate of LinkedIn. The offering of $400m worth of shares proceeds going to investors rather than to the company itself. According to people familiar with the case, it is indicated that the offering might come next week. According to the analysts, it is said that the offering is also designed to take advantage of investor interest leading into the Facebook offering expected this spring. Zynga is one of the primary revenue sources of Facebook, as the users pay for credits to play games such as FarmVille via the social networking platform.

Right Type of Motivation

People are motivated by different things. It is meaningless to say what kind of motivation is better than another. But there are only a few answers that are good enough to the interviewers during a job interview. The good motivation include:

1. Recognition

While many interviewers consider it gauche to say that you are motivated by money, you can say that you like to have your good work recognized by your boss, peers, or clients.

2. Making a difference

Saying that you are motivated by the pursuit of the organization’s goal is a good idea, especially when you are looking to get a job in the charity or non-profit sector.

3. Challenge

Another good answer is to say that you enjoy getting fully caught up in solving problems and getting to the bottom of difficult situations.

4. Self-development

Employers like candidates who want to further their own learning and development. Do bear in mind the nature of the role that you are applying for. A management training scheme is likely to provide you with much more by way of development opportunities than, say, an office data entry job.

5. Money

Only when going for a sales job should you talk about the fact that you are motivated by economic rewards. Actually, a lot of sales people are suspicious of candidates who say that they are not motivated by money and the luxuries that money can allow them to buy.
