Nissan to Produce Automobile in South Korea
Saturday, July 21, 2012 8:07According to the Japanese car manufacturer–Nissan, it was said that the next generation of its Rogue sport utility vehicle would be built partly in South Korea, which is Japan’s former colonial ward and present-day car-making competitor.
The move of Nissan comes at a time when longstanding political tensions between Japan and Korea have come back into spotlight. This move to build automobiles in Busan would become the first for the Japanese automobile industry, as Japanese manufacturers have had little overt presence in South Korea ever since the second world war. No Japanese car maker operates a factory in the country and few Japanese automobiles could be seen on the street of South Korea.
According to the plan, the Korean-made vehicles of Nissan will not be sold locally but exported to the US, where the sales of the small “crossover” is strong.
