Much more jobs could be lost at Nationalwide after the building society reported a 46% fall in annual profits. Britain’s biggest building society posted pre-tax profits of £212 million in the year to April 4 compared with £393 million a year earlier.
It is also warned that historically low interest rates would continue to hit profits in 2010. The building society is working on plans to cut branches, retail distribution outlets and back-office centres.
