Mobile Marketing or Mobile Advertising?

Usually, you will read something about a successful mobile marketing campaign and it ends to be about mobile advertising. However, they are two different concepts that need to be distinguished.
With mobile advertising, the marketers are trying to reach the audience that is most likely to be the potential customers. Advertising is facing the general public. So, if you are investing on mobile advertising, you will be purchasing banners on mobile sites or on iPhone apps, or ads on a SMS message.
Mobile marketing, on the other hand, is more about building a database of the existing customer or the potential customers and then specifically marketing to them. Tailored marketing information is only sent to the targets in the database.
The key difference between these two terms is that one of them is database marketing while the other is advertising.
