There is a gap between people’s consideration of buying and their action of buying. Most rational customers nowadays prefer to do some research before making purchases. The more information they can get, the closer they are to the decision of purchase.
However, the quick development of communication technology is making large amount of information easily available for all kinds of people everyday. Sometimes, it’s just “too much”. There is an ocean of information out there. The problem of “too much information available” is not only bringing difficult to different businesses in their marketing approaches, but also presenting increasing challenges for the modern consumers to get the right bit of information they need. As a result, the customers may be very specific in raising searching question. For different searchers, the little bit of information about what they are exactly looking for may be critical to their decision to purchase, or not. If the result to these specific questions or requirement of detailed information cannot be found, or at least not easily found, with searching engines, there is a missing link in businesses’ on-line marketing approaches.
For example, much information concerning a business is confidential to outsiders and customers cannot get access to it until they become customers or registered members. So most of the time, most customers will just not buy, postpone buying, or just turning to what they know. The “missing link” may cause a business great loss of potential customers in the market. The operation of a business website might not be very effective in bringing in more trades. However, if the customers do choose to register as a member to get necessary information, they may find out that the service or product is not exactly what they want. That’s not nice either. If customers can be entitled to temporally experience on-line service and obtain more right information, it will be very beneficial! Such kind of marketing approach helps solve the missing link problem and would help persuade the customers from considering buying into actually buying. Usually it is referred to as the “missing link marketing”.
For various businesses of different natures, the missing link would vary. Actually it’s hard if not impossible to identify different customer’s missing link, let alone solve it. In the new digital landscape, with new tools, services, and methods, these missing links can be solved. Marketers can simply take a look at what questions people are raising on the forums to pick out the missing links and even get clues to how to solve some of the missing links. Besides, to help solve the problems concerning Missing Link Marketing, many marketing consulting groups or agencies are offering a whole range of service package.
