Millions Parents Eligible for Flexible Working Time
Monday, April 6, 2009 16:49Ever since 2003, the parents in the UK with children under the age of 6 were entitled to require for flexible working rights. However, from tomorrow on, the age limit will rise to 16. According to an estimation, 4.5m more workers will be eligible for this right.
It is a new management style, that focused more on output than the hours people put in. actually, flexible working has helped increase productivity and greatly reduce sickness as well as staff turnover. And businesses that adopt flexible working options are in a better position to attract talented employees in the field. It bodes particularly well for women in senior professional roles who want a career that fits around family life. Flexibility and part-time employment are recognized as capable of providing the answer to supporting consistant growth in a climate of budget freezes.
However, the experts fear that the potential benefits of the new laws will be missed due to the recession. The employees, who are anxious about their jobs, may feel that it is not the right time to ask for flexible work now, yet a restructuring of working hours might help employers avoid redundancy.
