Last-Minute Shoppers Come to Stores’ Rescue
Tuesday, December 23, 2008 15:15
Tens of thousand last-minute shoppers flocked to stores across the country last weekend. It handed retailers a welcome Christmas Boost.
The number of panic buyers and those seeking 11th-hour price cuts was up by as much as a fifth compared with the same weekend last year. On Saturday alone, about 600000 people visited London’s West End shopping district. The footfall in London’s Oxford Street increased by 21.5%, while the figure was up by 7.1% nationwide.
However, there is a lot less money going through the tills this year as people have tended to budget these days. The analysts also warned that the pre-Christmas bounce was unlikely to make up for otherwise falling sales during the month of December.
