The impact of recession goes on in the new year of 2009. Latest data from UK’s leading building society shows the sharpest annual in housing market ever since records began in early 1990s.
As the house prices have droped by nearly 16% in the past year, hundreds of thousands of homeowners have been plunged into negative equity.
Last month alone, the house prices slumped by 2.5%, far exceeding a fall of 0.4 per cent in November and dashing hopes that the slide had begun to ease. As the economy stays in recession, thet house prices is expected to continue to fall and won’t begin to rise till next year. The Government is expanding the mortgage repayment scheme in order to help struggling homeowners.
