Boosts Job Prospects with A Gap Year
Thursday, October 8, 2009 16:14With the competition fierce for every vacancy, people who are applying for a job need something that will give them the edge over stay-at-home rivals.
The employers will look for applicants who have taken volunteering work or freelancing work during their gap years as it demonstrates they have achieved something in their time out. Besides, it also indicates that they have the ability to stand on their own two feet and take the initiative, as some gap year experiences take a lot of motivation, drive and energy to get off the ground. For the graduates who just leave school, gap year experience can help demonstrate their capacity to develop beyond academic study.
When choosing what to do during the gap year, it is worth keeping the future in focus. Any activities or skills gained during the period don’t have to be directly relevant to a future career. However, it is important to show that such experience could have given you sills such and learning quickly, or adaptability, etc. And these skills would benefit an employer.
With the skills learned, the gap years could be seen as a way to make one stand out from the crowd.
