While millions of people are struggling to pay big bills brought on by the harsh winter, the energy companies are actually boosting their profits by 20%. The energy suppliers have been capable of earning bumper profits as the prices at which they purchase energy have fallen, but the savings were passed on to customers.
Experts in the field believed that the greedy energy companies will delay their price cuts until the expensive winter bills are paid. It means consumers must rely on themselves to cut bills as much as possible.
Here are five things to do to hit back and cut the energy bills:
First of all, switch the supplier could help one save hundreds of pound a year. For people who have never done that before, the savings could be huger. However, millions of households just don’t want to bother, though Internet has made it much easier for people to search cheaper deals.
Secondly, take the smaller companies on the market place into consideration. Newcomers such as OVO and First Utility has undercut many of the big players.
Thirdly, seek a dual-fuel deal. Making your gas and electricity supplied by the same company can usually save you some money, compared to buying them seperately from different suppliers.
Fourthly, according to some studies, using online service and paying by direct debit can help you can save a lot.
Last but not least, think about getting a fixed rate. Do some math before shifting to a fixed rate. Evaluate your current average spending and compare it to the deal your are going to get. Caculate the gap and figure out whether it will actually help you save money.
