Green loans, which will enable the homeowners to make their homes more energy efficient with solar panels and thermal insulation, will be available from 2012. Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband has announced more details about the loan program.
Legislation must be introduced to allow for the loans to be attached to houses in this way. The whole house energy makeovers, require the government to roll-out to improve the energy efficiency of 22m in the UK’s existing homes. It is a set of technologies, including thermal insulation and small renewable energy such as solar panels.
It also expected to create up to 65000 jobs in the green real estate industry. Around 500 houses in Birmingham, Sunderland, Sutton and Stroud were on pilot tests with a £4m for the Pay As You Save program.
