The concept of Interim Management means the temporary provision of management resources and skills. It can be taken as the assignment for an Interim Executive to manage a number of different business situations, such as a short-term transition, crisis or change in an organization. In such situations, a permanent managing role might be unnecessary or even impossible to find on. Besides, there might be no one internally that is suitable for, or available to take up the position.
In an Interim Management assignment, there are seven phases.
First of all, you need to select the one, who can quickly adapt and analyze, to work autonomously, to be result oriented, stress resistant, as well as communicative, etc., to be the manager.
Then the assignment should be confirmed.
In phrase two, to prepare the manager for the assignment, preliminary meetings should be taken to gather information concerning the market, the company, the operational rules, the current businesses and the staff.
Phrase three is the operational start of the assignment, when the manager quickly imposes his mark by setting the first rules and by taking some safe decisions.
Observe, analyze and navigate of the circumstances at sight is the primary objective for the fourth phrase. Besides, even some important decisions need to be taken right away in this phrase.
Then, define the action plan, which should be a mix of ideas from the interim manager, bringing an external point of view and expertise, and the best ideas from his staff who will feel valued when their opinion has been taken into account.
In phrase six, after the interim manager establishing the leadership and announcing the action plan, he needs to prove himself via execution and communication.
Last but not least, once the objective has been achieved, the power as well as relevant knowledge and progress report will be transferred from the interim manager to the succeeding management.
