Many business opportunities exist in the area where competitions are already fierce. Cite the Beverage industry for example. Though many strong brands are busy competing with each other for more shares in the market, some new small businesses still find some space for further development. Instead of being squeezed out of business, some of them are actually doing great.
Firefly Tonics Ltd. is an English producer of fruit juice drinks with added herbal extracts. The company was founded in 2003 by two London-based entrepreneurs—Harry Briggs and Marcus Waley-Cohen.
The company is based in central London and employs 9 people. Now, its products range includes a lot of functional drinks that feature botanical extracts such as Angelica, Damiana, Siberian Ginseng as well as Sarsaparilla mixed with fruit juices such as Peach and Blueberry. Firefly has been working constantly on product development and sales. Formulas are revised and new juices are used. In the year of 2008, the company newly launched the “Firefly Water”, which is a naturally low-calorie spring water drink with antioxidant-rich teas such as Green tea, Yerba Maté and Redbush Tea. The products won “Best new functional drink” at the international Beverage Innovation Awards in April. Personally speaking, I quite like the design of the bottle.
Till May 2008, Firefly drinks are sold in 33 countries, especially in top hotels, delicatessens, food halls and health-food shops, with sales of 8 million bottles, half of which are sold in the UK. It’s one of the most successful entrepreneurial businesses in the UK now.
