Ministers May Scrap Plan to Build Refuelling Tankers for RAF

A GBP10.5 billion plan to buy air-refuelling tankers for the Royal Air Force is being reconsidered by the Government after concerns were raised over the value of the deal.
Ministers could srap the project or sell one third of the aircraft to France after it emerged that the consortium supplying the aircraft spent GBP100 million on a hanger and infrastructure. The 14 aircraft will be purchased from a consortium, which was called Air Tanker, representing Rolls-Royce, Airbus, Cobham, Thales and Babcock.
The previous Government acquired the aircraft under a private finance initiative, rather than buy them outright.
