HSBC Targets Cross-selling Revenue Boost

According to the UK-listed bank–HSBC, it is announced that the group could generate an extra cross-selling revenue of $1bn from the closer integration of its four key businesses, on top of the $1bn HSBC has been targeting, as part of its restructuring.
The banking group has already sold or closed 28 small or non-strategic businesses ever since chief executive–Stuart Gulliver launched his overhaul last May, which has seen the bank cut up to $55bn in risk weighted assets from its balance sheet and shed about 30000 employees.

Early Facebook Backers Add to Share Sale

Some of earliest backers of Facebook are planning to sell an additional shares of $3bn in today’s initial public offering, as they take advantage of a wave of public interest in the social network group’s flotation.
Such move will increase the number of shares on offer by 25%, with proceeds flowing to existing investors including Goldman Sachs, Tiger Global Management as well as Accel Partners.
Demand of the investor has been stoked by a cross-country US roadshow over the past two weeks, allowing Facebook to increase the size of its offering from $12bn to as much as $18bn. However, Facebook goes on rankling some large institutional investors who are worried that the IPO’s rising price from $34 to $38 and heavy insider selling could make the shares of the company more volatile after their market debut.

Avon to Consider Coty Bid

The global cosmetic company–Avon Products announced that it would consider the raised $10.7bn bid from Coty, indicating that the company expected to respond to the fragrance maker within a week.
In a letter addressed to Avon board of directors on May 9th, Coty raised its earlier offer of $23.25 a share for the cosmetics direct seller to $24.75 a share. For the first time, Coty announced that Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway would provide financing. It gave Avon a three-day deadline of Monday for its response indicating that it would withdraw its offer if it failed to enter into talks.

BMI Charges and Fuel Costs Take Toll on IAG

International Airlines Group just reported a worse than expected operating loss of €249m for the first quarter of 2012. It is also expecting only to break even in the year due to the high fuel costs and charges relating to its acquisition of BMI British Midland.
According to IAG, which was created in 2011 from the merger of British Airways and Iberia, it was said that the company’s profitability this year would be hit by €240m of operating losses and restructuring charges at BMI.
