In recession time, we should take drastic actions. If you own a good-sized home in a good location, then why not rent it out and downsize. Sure, the property market has bombed but it will come back. There is a shortage of housing in the UK, and when things are in short supply, the demand increases and the price goes up. The market makes these rules. We may need to wait a few years but you will get the money back.
The good news is that as the housing market has ground to a halt the rental market for quality homes is quite buoyant and there is a strong demand.
Taking this one step further you might want to rent out your house and then take off abroad for a fw years to wait until the recession business blow over.
