After weeks of negotiations, though the Government’s long-awaited package to tackle fuel poverty has finally been unveiled, energy suppliers and generators have been persuaded to invest around 910 million pound in installing energy efficiency measures in people’s houses. Despite of Gordon Brown’s new pledge of one billion pound, anxious property owners don’t think their troubles are over as they really need to consider how to pay for the heating fees to keep warm this winter.
Free cavity wall and loft insulation are now available to eleven million pensioners as well as low-income house owners, whilst all other house owners will receive a discount of 50% on the cost of insulating their homes. A funding to the Warm Front scheme, which is up to £2,700 worth of central heating costs and energy efficiency measures, will be offered to 40,000 more low-income and pensioner house owners. However, the UK Government is still being criticized for not having done enough to bring immediate and much-needed relief to the house owners.
But remember there are many ways to cut the costs of the household fuel bills. The following are some .
First of all, you can switch to a new cheaper supplier of energy to save your money.
Secondly, you should check your bills to avoid overpaying the bills as some apparent flaws in the billing systems of power have just been uncovered.
Thirdly, it’ll be helpful to find free advice on energy-saving products for home improvement in your local area.
Fourthly, to use energy-efficient light bulbs and turn off the electronic appliances, such as computer and lights, as well as radiators when leaving a room are very simple and cost-effective ways.
Fifth, to invest in thicker curtains that properly fit your windows can help to better retain the heat in the room.
Last but not least, you can check if you are eligible to some social tariffs.
