The Bank of England has warned that a drought of trade credit is now threatening thousands of small and medium-sized companies. In last week’s quarterly inflation report, the Bank sounded the alarm and the fact that it was raised in such a publication is a sign of its concern.
It is said that the companies and traders who previously allowed each other to delay payment were requiring faster settlement of debts these days. It may help improve the situation of short-term cash flow. However, in the long-run and in a more overall aspect, it could cramp the capacity of UK’s economic and reduce the national output.
