Companies Ignoring British Graduates for Jobs Require Language Skills
Friday, June 4, 2010 16:17
In a research seen by The Times, British employers admitted that they are ignoring the graduates from the UK for the job that need a foreign language, simply assuming that they cannot speak another language.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has received complaints from overseas businesses setting up in britain about the lack of language skills among British graduates.
Research for Cilt, which is the Government-funded National Centre for Languages, has uncovered the extend of the problem. It has found that employers view the pool of those with high-level language skills as a global one, with the UK a relatively weak player. Candidates were more likely to be from outside UK and the young people in the UK are felt to be falling behind or at a disadvantage in comparison to those from foreign countries.
