Sometimes, people are very cruel and there’s a lot of stigma attached to one’s appearance. Beauty can be taken as some kind of privilege.
Nowadays, the beauty trade is flourishing greatly. The beauty industry has turned into a business of multinational, multi-million dollar profits, with plastic surgery being the most profitable business in this industry. Different miracle ingredients and revolutionary formulations in skin care products are being developed and brought to the market place almost every day. Various kinds of cosmetic dermatology are available in the field, such as icrodermabrasion, mini face-lifts, Botox injection as well as other kinds of treatment, and so on. The rise of celebrity culture has been said to play a significant part in the growth of such cosmetic surgeries.
Along with the further development of technology and medical science, plastic surgeries have fewer risks and require less recovery time. Now, it’s no longer the fact that only women are opting for a nip or tuck. According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), in the past 5 years, the number of men turning to cosmetic surgery has risen by more than 300%. Even the market segment of teenagers has been explored. Recently, a plastic surgeon just reshaped the nose of a 14-year-old girl who was being bullied and gave breast implants to several other girls who had been teased about their appearance.
There are heated debates upon the controversial topic whether people should resort to surgery. There are people with very strong feelings on both sides of the argument. The moral level of this business has been questioned. The series of consequence associated with this surgical and medical process have been discussed. Someone claims that people should not rely on surgeries to get self-esteem; while others argue that the process help people, especially the one suffering from their appearance problems, to feel fabulous. Someone even claim the cosmetic surgery to be the new addiction of people. Every party in the debate got their own points and it’s still too early to tell who’s definitely right. But one thing is certain, that in the modern world, the place of beauty industry in social culture has changed hugely.
