China’s largest online search company, Baidu, who holds a share of more than 70% of China’s online search market by revenues, took its first step towards launching a mobile operating system in an attempt to extend its dominant position in the Chinese market to the growing business sector of mobile phone.
According to Baidu, it is announced that the software platform–Baidu Yi will allow the consumers to use search-related apps on mobile devices fast and easily. Though the current version of the system is based on Google’s Android open source software, it is quite likely that Baidu will launch its own operating system in the future.
Baidu was already in talks with app developers, smartphone makers as well as manufacturers of key components like chipsets for the new platform.
