Chief executive of British Airline—Willie Walsh has identified 12 airlines as potential acquisition targets once he completes the merger of BA and Iberia this year.
According to Mr Walsh, it is said that discussions had been held with executives of the Spanish flag carrier on future acquisitions, in an approach to lead a wave of consolidation in the industry. BA and Iberia are expected to complete their merger towards the end of 2010 after two years of negotiations.
The carriers will continue to coperate under their existing brands but will be owned by a new holding ompany—International Airlines Group, which will be based in London.
