In times of recession, which are the safest career choices at a time of economic slowdown? For people who are looking to find jobs these days, this is an important question.
Though according to previous experience, no “safe” jobs will ever be completely accurate, there should still be some information offering an indication of the factors people should look for when searching for job security. According to some opinon from the experts, a list has been drawn up of 10 jobs that are most likely to weather the storm.
1. Teaching
Kids still have to go to school during a recession, and their numbers don’t decline along with economic output. So teachers should still enjoy good job security during a downturn.
2. Working in the NHS
The previous logic also applies to healthcare workers. As many people need treatment in a recession as in normal times.
3. Other public service jobs
Public bodies are funded by the taxpayer via government. In the time of recession, the Government doesn’t want to worsen the unemployment situation by further eliminating jobs in key public services.
4. Public transport projects
The Government may put more resources into public transport projects to take up the spare capacity in the economic recession.
5. Home insulation as well as other ‘green’ initiatives
As a way of boosting the economy and cutting carbon dioxide emissions, large amount of public money may also be pumped into environmentally friendly projects.
6. Energy
A new tranche of power stations in needed in the UK to replace ageing nuclear plants and the most polluting fossil-fuel-burning facilities.
7. IT
Information technology specialists remain much sough in tough time.
8. Human resources
In the current climate, HR professionals’ ability to deal with employee relations is in great demand.
9. Interim managers
This kind short-term employees brought in by a company to manage a particular project or cover for leaving permanent employees are always in need.
10. Accountants/finance directors/compliance officers
Talents in these professionals are more needed in a market downturn, as organizations pull out all the stops to survive, or as failed ones are wound up or sold on.
